Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – Post University tallied four first-half goals, including two in the first three minutes, to earn a 5-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
Sophomore midfielder Vinicius Lelis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) produced two goals and an assist for Post (8-4-1, 6-2 CACC), the No. 9-ranked team in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches poll.
Just one minute, 27 seconds, into the match, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick, which graduate student Anthony Asante (Bronx, N.Y.) converted. At the 2:40 mark, Lelis struck for his first goal of the year when he got a head on teammate Gustavo Ferreira's (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) corner kick and put the ball into the top left corner of the net.
Almost as quickly, Felician (2-11, 1-8) cut its deficit in half. Freshman Dean Wright (Dublin, Ireland) sent a high cross across the 18-yard box and found the head of graduate student Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico), who finished 4:03 into the match.
But the Golden Falcons continued to have trouble containing the Eagle attack. Post got off four shot attempts in the seven minutes following the Felician goal, then cashed in during the 16th minute when Lelis set up Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.). Asante picked up his second score of the match and 10th of the season in the 33rd minute, and the hosts took a 4-1 edge into halftime.
Another Ferreira corner kick led to the Eagles' final score of the game, a Lelis shot from short range in the 65th minute. Felician freshman Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y.) earned his eighth goal of the season with 3:37 to play, cleaning up a rebound of a Coronel shot. Coronel was credited with an assist on the play.
Post completed the game with advantages of 21-6 in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks. Golden Falcon sophomore goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) made five saves.
