Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell University took the lead for good with a 23-4 second-half run to earn a 67-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday afternoon at the George R. Newman Center.
Caldwell senior guard Dawan Lighty (Paterson, N.J.) led all scorers with 23 points. Junior guard C.J. Mwila (Livonia, Mich.) came off the Felician bench to record a career-high 12 points.
Felician (3-5, 1-3 CACC) used a jump shot by Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) and a pair of Mwila free throws to take a 43-40 lead with 13 minutes, four seconds, to play in regulation tie. But the game's next nine points came on a trio of Caldwell three-point field goals, jump-starting the game's decisive run. Tyler Drews (Old Bridge, N.J.) tied the game at the 12:34 mark, Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) put the Cougars ahead to stay with 11:11 to play, and Drews made it a six-point bulge at the 10:41 mark.
The Golden Falcons received a bucket from Miavivululu out of a timeout, but tallied only two more points in the next six-plus minutes of game action. A Lighty jumper at the 4:16 mark gave the hosts their largest advantage, 63-47.
Felician made one final push, closing to within 63-53 on consecutive threes from Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del.) and Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y.), then to within 65-57 with 2:02 to play on four straight Mwila points. But the visitors were held scoreless for the balance of the contest.
Caldwell (4-6, 2-3) amassed a 36-25 rebounding advantage. Cougar senior Vin O'Beirne (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) accumulated 11 points and six rebounds in 20 bench minutes. Kozul finished with 10 points and six boards for Felician.
Caldwell scored the game's first nine points before settling for a 30-27 halftime advantage.
