Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) scored 18 of his season-high 24 points in the second half to lead Felician University to a come-from-behind 75-66 non-conference men's basketball victory over visiting Mercy College on Thursday night at Job Gymnasium.
Felician (6-10), a 63-55 winner on Tuesday at Georgian Court University, has earned consecutive victories for the first time in the 2015-16 campaign. The Golden Falcons also matched their win total for each of the last two seasons.
Miavivululu, who added six rebounds, shot 8 for 20 from the field, but was 6 for 11 after halftime. Felician also received 17 points and seven rebounds from junior guard C.J. Mwila (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson). Senior swingman Tyseem Lyles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Health Profession) netted 18 points to top Mercy (4-8).
The Golden Falcons trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, and 37-28 at intermission. With 16 minutes, 44 seconds, to play in regulation, Mercy still led by 11 after a tip-in by senior Josh Thompson (Chester, Pa./New Beginnings Academy). But Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) canned consecutive jump shots, the first one a three-pointer, to kick-start an 11-0 Felician run. A Miavivululu fadeaway jumper tied the game at 44-44 with 13:23 to play.
The lead changed hands five times in the next seven-plus minutes of game action. A lay-up by Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) at 6:13 gave the hosts the lead for good, and following a Maverick offensive foul, a three-pointer by Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) provided a 62-58 edge. Mercy pulled to within 64-62 on a Lyles jumper with 3:22 remaining, but Miavivululu scored on Felician's next two possessions and the Golden Falcons obtained the defensive stops they needed to pull away in the closing minutes. Felician finished with 47 second-half points.
The Golden Falcons put four scorers in double-figures. Junior guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) totaled 10 points, five rebounds and nine assists, and Kozul also finished with 10 points. Felician made 9 of 20 three-point attempts (45 percent).
Maverick junior Isaiah Cosbert (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored 16 points, and classmate Will Robinson (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) recorded eight points and 11 rebounds.
