Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Junior midfielder Amanda Nowak (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) registered two goals and an assist and sophomore defender Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) turned in a goal and two assists to lead Felician University to a 4-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
The night began inauspiciously for the Golden Falcons (4-7-1, 2-5-1 CACC). In the fourth minute, a header by Nowak was cleared off of the goal line by a Concordia defender. Fewer than 10 minutes later, the visitors took an early lead. Clipper freshman Jimena Garcia Risoto (Madrid, Spain/Gredos San Diego Las Rozas) ran onto a bouncing long ball from teammate Maddi Paulson (Kalispell, Mont./Kalispell Glacier) and chipped it over charging Felician goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J/Wayne Hills) at the 13:21 mark.
Felician was able to generate offensive pressure for much of the first period, and cashed in by being opportunistic in the latter stages of the half. With 9:13 to play, Nowak was able to block an attempted clear by Clipper keeper Stephanie Wilczynski (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) with her shins, settle the ball, and finish to knot the score. One minute, two seconds, later, a Golden Falcon played a ball into the 18-yard box which caromed off a defender to Lederle, whose blast from 25 yards hit the bottom of the crossbar and went over the goal line.
Lederle assisted on Nowak's second goal of the game, coming in the 61st minute, and both players later helped set up Giana DiTonto (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst), who scored her first of the season on a 76th minute corner kick opportunity to complete the scoring.
Felician amassed statistical advantages of 18-9 in shots (12-3 first half) and 8-0 in corner kicks. Nowak led all players with six shots. Ademi finished with six saves, including four in the second half to help keep Concordia off the scoreboard in the period. Wilczynski was credited with five saves.
Nowak's pair of scores give her nine goals on the season and 20 for her collegiate career. She becomes the 10th player in the 19-year history of the Felician program to reach 20 goals.
Felician celebrates Senior Night when it entertains Holy Family University on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
