Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Caldwell University posted a .459 team attack percentage and collected 11 service aces in its 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-17) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Felician University on Friday evening at the George R. Newman Center.
Sophomore Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) led the Felician offense with seven kills. The Golden Falcons received six kills and 10 digs from junior Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J.), who hit .545 on the night.
Caldwell (13-9, 6-4 CACC) won 12 out of 13 points in the middle of the first set, stretching a one-point lead to an 18-6 advantage. The Cougars hit .440 for the set. Similarly, with the second set even at 3-3, the hosts won 17 of the next 19 rallies to pull away and move ahead, 2-0, for the match.
Caldwell started fast in Set 3, jumping out to leads of 7-2, 16-7, and 20-9. Trailing, 23-11, the Golden Falcons won six of the next seven points, including aces by Calero and Sammi Turpin (St. Petersburg, Fla.), before succumbing.
Junior Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) hit .529 with 10 kills and four aces to lead Caldwell. Cougar junior Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) hit .421 with nine kills.
Freshman setters Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif.) and Turpin combined for 18 assists for Felician (0-19, 0-10).
The Golden Falcons return home to face Philadelphia University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J. in the midst of Felician's Homecoming & Family Weekend.
