WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Felician University began its third season of varsity intercollegiate women's bowling on Saturday by traveling to the Sacred Heart University Bowl For The Cure event, held at Wallingford Bowl.
The tournament, a six-team, one-day event, consisted of five traditional team matches, as teach team eventually competed against all of the other five attendees. Felician was one of three teams to post a 1-4 won-lost record, but ended up in sixth place due to tiebreakers.
The individual standings were arranged by tournament average. Golden Falcon junior right-hander Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) started four of the five matches and averaged 185.5, with a high game of 202. Thirty-nine bowlers started at least one match, with Keller finishing ninth in the field.
Two other Felician bowlers also started four games. Junior Jessica Zalewski (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) finished 16th with a 176.0 average. Zalewski tossed the Golden Falcons' best individual game of the tournament, a 211 in Match 4. Junior Heather Androvich (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) turned in a 170.0 average and placed 22nd.
Junior Kaitlyn Stapleton (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood Regional) shot 513 over three starts (171.0) and finished 20th.
After losing its first three matches of the day, Felician defeated No. 17 nationally-ranked Kutztown University, 967-837 in Match 4. The 967 for the Golden Falcons was their highest team score of the tournament by 94 pins. In Match 5, Felician was edged by Franklin Pierce University, 858-857.
Host Sacred Heart went 5-0 in its dual matches, averaging 194.7. Pioneer senior Lauren Hoffman fired 1073 for five games (214.6) and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
