Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University fell behind by 13 points after six minutes of an eventual 92-84 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball loss to visiting Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Felician (5-4, 2-2 CACC) saw a five-game winning streak, its longest since late in the 2010-11 season, come to and end.
The Golden Falcons received "double-doubles" from sophomore forward Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J./Eastside), who amassed 23 points and 15 rebounds, and senior guard Bryant Webb (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial), who totaled 19 points and 10 boards. Bloomfield (4-4, 1-1) placed five scorers in double figures, led by 24 points, six rebounds and four assists from junior forward Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley).
The match-up of two of the CACC's top three scoring teams lived up to its billing. Bloomfield, which never trailed, opened up an 19-6 edge after six minutes of action, and took their largest lead of the day, 38-19, on a deep three-point field goal by Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J./The Robinson School) with 7:38 left in the opening period.
Five consecutive points by Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J./University) late in the first cut the hosts' deficit to 45-38. But Bloomfield freshman Dontay Julius (Linden, N.J./St. Mary's) scored five consecutive points to help the visitors carry a 50-39 bulge into the locker room.
Bloomfield's largest spread of the second period came at 60-42 following consecutive Davidson jumpers, the latter with 16:06 left in regulation time. Still down by 14 with 9:26 to play, Felician embarked on a 11-0 run, capped by a William Phelps (Linden, N.J./Linden) jumper at 6:46, to come within three.
Out of a timeout, Abdus-Safur converted a driving lay-up. The Golden Falcons could not come up with another field goal until Phelps scored again with 3:21 to play, by which time his team trailed, 81-74. Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J./The Robinson School) nailed a jumper on Bloomfield's next possession, and the visitors went 6 for 8 at the foul line down the stretch to hold off the Golden Falcons.
Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del./Howard) netted 19 points with four assists and Wright scored 14 points with three steals for Felician. Bloomfield's Julius poured in 23 points in 26 bench minutes.
Felician entertains Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Rutherford.
