Box Score NEWARK, Del. – Despite a career-high 25 points and seven assists from junior guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.), the Felician University men's basketball team lost to host Wilmington (Del.) University, 73-66, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
Reid shot 11 for 16 from the field, and was supported by 17 points and nine rebounds from Felician senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.). Wilmington (9-17, 4-13 CACC) was led by 22 points and eight rebounds from junior guard Tyaire Ponzo-Meek (Wilmington, Del.), the CACC's top scorer.
The game's first half featured four ties and seven lead changes before the Wildcats went into the locker room with a 38-35 advantage. Reid split a pair of free throws with 18:31 to play in regulation, and neither team scored for the next 4:01 of game time. Felician erased a five-point deficit to knot things at 44-44 at the 12:20 mark, but with 6:55 remaining, Wilmington, led, 57-50.
The Golden Falcon defense allowed them to make another run, and the visitors tied the game again, 57-57, on a Vadji Dosso (Paris, France) lay-up with 4:39 to play. But Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, Md.) got to the rim for a dunk on the Wildcats' next possession, touching off a 10-0 run for the hosts. By the time Dosso scored again to break the spurt, only 1:03 remained. Wilmington went 6 for 6 at the foul line in the final 0:43 to secure the victory.
Felician committed a season-low six turnovers, but was outscored, 15-2, at the foul line. Drew Johnson (Lancaster, Pa.) scored 17 points and Sam Sanders (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 13 for Wilmington. Golden Falcon sophomore Tony Houston (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored six points with a career-high six rebounds.
