Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dominican (N.Y.) College emerged triumphant from a tight first set and went on to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician University on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Freshman outside hitter Lauren Mack (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led Felician (0-11, 0-6 CACC) with seven kills and 11 digs.
Set 1 featured 11 ties and five lead changes, with the teams never separated by more than four points. A Felician side-out on a kill by Kaleysa Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) gave the hosts a 22-20 edge. But Dominican captured the next four rallies. A Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) kill saved one set point for the Golden Falcons, but Charger senior Cortney Yeoman (Glenn Dale, Md./St. John's College HS) then delivered her eighth kill of the set to give the visitors the 1-0 lead in the match.
Dominican (4-9, 3-1) built a lead of 13-7 and held off the Golden Falcons to take the second set. Felician closed a 16-10 Set 3 deficit to 16-15, but the Chargers opened their advantage back up to 22-17. With the score 23-19, consecutive kills by Dominican freshman Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) ended the match.
Yeoman hit .423 on the night and led all players with 14 kills and three aces. Dominican received six kills and 33 assists from senior setter Kera Dexter (Selah, Wash./Selah)
Felician could not take advantage of a 9-2 edge in blocking. Vodrazka finished with five kills and five blocks while hitting .417, and freshman Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif./Murietta Mesa) totaled 22 assists and four blocks for the Golden Falcons.
The Chargers defeated Felician for the second time this season. The teams met in non-conference action during the Stonehill College Skyhawk Invitational on Sept. 9. They play another CACC match on Nov. 8 in Orangeburg, N.Y.
