Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Felician University was unable to generate a winning set on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-15) decision to the host University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action at Bobby Morgan Arena.
Junior outside hitter Dakota Raymond (Chadds Ford, Pa.) amassed 12 kills and nine digs for USciences (6-11, 4-9 CACC), which has won three of its last four matches. Felician received eight kills from freshman middle blocker Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii).
Set 1 was tied five times in the early-going, the final occasion at 8-8 at the beginning of a run of four consecutive points for the Devils. While Felician never led again, it got as close as 19-18. A block by Simran Sangu (Avenel, N.J.) and a Rhiannon Comia (Roseville, Calif.) ace restored a three-point edge, and after a kill by Asbery, USciences scored the set's final four points.
The Golden Falcons fell behind, 11-5 and 15-8, in the second set. Trailing 20-16, Felician allowed the Devils to score four times in a row and reach set point. The visitors saved six set points, all on Devil attack errors, forcing the hosts to use a timeout. Out of it, however, Felician was called for a double-hit, handing the set and a 2-0 lead to USciences.
Early in Set 3, the Devils won nine straight rallies for an 11-4 advantage. They increased to 19-10 before Felician crept back on a kill by Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) and back-to-back Asbery aces. But the next three points went the hosts' way, and shortly thereafter, two Raymond kills closed out the match one hour, 14 minutes, after the first service.
Felician (2-17, 1-12) was held to an .037 team attack percentage for the day. Calero accumulated seven kills and 13 digs, and sophomore setter Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif.) added 16 assists and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
Elizabeth Checca (Mullica Hill, N.J.) had nine kills and eight digs for the Devils.
Felician plays its next three matches at home, including a Wednesday night date with Georgian Court University.
