Bloomfield Women's Soccer Edges Golden Falcons, 1-0

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Bloomfield College broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute and went on to a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Wednesday night at Foley Field.

A header by Bloomfield freshman Brigid Dwyer (Brick, N.J.) with 17 minutes, 43 seconds, to play in regulation time proved to be the game's only goal. Dwyer picked up her third score of the season.

The Golden Falcons (3-7-1, 2-5 CACC) were dangerous on several occasions in the first half, but the Bloomfield defense and junior goalkeeper Emira Sela (Staten Island, N.Y.) were up to the challenge. In one 36th-minute sequence, Sela saved three Felician shots in the space of 31 seconds.

An early second-period injury put starting defender Jess Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) between the pipes for Bloomfield. About 10 minutes into the half, the match opened up, with several strong chances for each side. But Kenny and her Felician counterpart, freshman Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.) were again up to the challenge. Kenny made three saves before the Bears turned to back-up keeper Jessica Larson (Delran, N.Y.) in the 69th minute and returned Kenny to the back line.

With 19:19 to play, a Felician player was sent off for what was ruled a dangerous tackle. It took the Bears fewer than two minutes to leverage the player advantage. Junior Rachel Van Artsdalen (Palmyra, N.J.) served a ball into the 18-yard box which Dwyer headed into the net to break the tie.

Felician got off three shots in the remaining time, but none were on frame. Its last chance came on an 86th minute corner kick, but a resulting shot by defender Michelle Montefinese (Eatontown, N.J.) sailed over the crossbar.

The teams evenly split 30 shots on the night. Felician's Amanda Nowak (Kolbuszowa, Poland) led all individuals with six. Kazenmayer kept the Golden Falcons in contention throughout the night with eight saves. Sela had six saves in 46 minutes of action, and Larson was credited with the victory for her 22 minutes of work.

The Golden Falcons are off until hosting Nyack College in CACC action on Oct. 11 in Lyndhurst.
