Box Score NEWARK, Del. – A tie-breaking penalty kick with 19 minutes, 48 seconds left in regulation time lifted Wilmington (Del.) University to a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Sunday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The match was the first CACC tilt of 2017 for both schools.
Senior forward Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) tallied the goal for the Golden Falcons (0-3-1, 0-1 CACC).
Felician appeared to enjoy the better of the play for the match's first 20 minutes. It was only able to put one shot on frame in that time, however, a 16th minute Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J.) offering that was stopped by Wilmington senior goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams (Middletown, Del.).
Williams' counterpart, Felician freshman Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.), made three saves in a five-minute span mid-way through the period to keep the game scoreless. That set up Stoll, who was the first player to a Williams punt. She dribbled down the left side and put a low shot inside the far post for an unassisted score with 12:35 to play in the first half.
The Wildcats (2-1-1, 1-0) obtained the equalizer in the 64th minute. Junior Rebecca Dolhansky (Blackwood, N.J.) launched a shot from 22 yards away that bounded off the bottom of the crossbar and past the goal line.
Fewer than seven minutes later, Wilmington graduate student Preslie Quaranta (Nottingham, Md.) made an aggressive move inside the 18-yard box and was tripped by a Golden Falcon defender. The referee awarded the Wildcats a penalty kick, which Quaranta converted.
Offensive opportunities were scarce for the visitors throughout the second half. Wilmington owned advantages of 5-0 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks for the period. Kazenmayer completed the day with four saves in defeat.
After four road games, Felician begins its 2017 home schedule on Wednesday when it entertains Dominican (N.Y.) College at 5 p.m. at the Lyndhurst (N.J.) Recreation Complex.
