Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Georgian Court University scored twice in the first 31 minutes and went on to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Investors Savings Bank Park.
Felician (2-5-1, 1-3 CACC) had trouble generating consistent offensive chances. The Golden Falcons were out-shot, 23-6, and did not put a shot on goal in the second half.
Georgian Court (5-3-1, 4-0) pressured the Golden Falcons right away, earning a corner kick just 19 seconds into the match, and getting off four shots (to none for Felician) in the first 12-plus minutes.
The Lions' efforts soon paid off. Senior Lizzy Kroon (Bayville, N.J.) collected a pass from sophomore Anissia Fucci (Manchester, N.J.) and, with 14 minutes, 40 seconds, gone by, put a shot into the upper-left corner of the net.
Felician's best chance to score on the day occurred shortly thereafter. In the 19th minute, the GCU defense blocked a shot by Golden Falcon senior Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.), but the ball rolled past the end line. Stoll took the resulting corner kick, and connected with junior Sami Lederle (Brick, N.J.). Lederle's shot, however, was cleared off the goal line by a Lion defender.
Later in the half, the hosts had better luck with a corner kick restart. An Erin Wimmer (Sayrevile, N.J.) offering rattled around in the 18-yard box before finding the foot of Lauren Mendez (Toms River, N.J.). The senior midfielder finished for her first goal of the season.
A Katie Paz (Bethpage, N.Y.) shot in the 41st minute resulted in the only save of the game for GCU sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Axelsson (Galloway, N.J.), as the Lions carried the two-goal lead into halftime.
Felician successfully defended seven GCU corner kicks in period two, but generated only three shots on offense. The Lions finished the day with a 12-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Jamie Kazenmayer (Forked River, N.J.) was credited with seven saves in defeat. Mendez led all players with four shots.
The Golden Falcons travel to Bronxville, N.Y., on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. kickoff against Concordia (N.Y.) College.
