Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite a career-high 15 points and five rebounds by senior forward Jordan Compas (Yonkers, N.Y./St. Anthony-Jersey City), the Felician University men's basketball team was defeated, 89-81, by visiting Bloomfield College on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium. Bloomfield (22-5, 17-1 CACC) is ranked No. 5 in the most recent NCAA Division II Committee East Region poll.
Felician celebrated Senior Night on the occasion of its final home game. Felician president Dr. Anne M. Prisco was among those on hand to honor the careers of Compas, Vadji Dosso (Paris, France/St. Vincent de Paul), Jamar Redmond (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark), and Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del./Howard) in a pre-game ceremony.
Also on Wednedsay, the Golden Falcons' first-round CACC playoff opponent was determined. Goldey-Beacom College clinched the CACC South Division title, and Felician will travel to Goldey-Beacom for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal on Tuesday, February 27, in Wilmington, Del.
Bloomfield junior guard Safee Abdus-Sabur (West Orange, N.J./Robinson School) led all players on Wednesday with 23 points and added five assists. Stanford, who had seven assists, was one of three Golden Falcons with 17 points. Compas shot 6 of 8 from the field, made all three of his three-point attempts, and totaled his 15 points in 20 minutes.
The contest featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Bloomfield went on a 12-2 run late in the first half to assume a 38-31 advantage, but Felician tallied the final eight points of the period, two Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J./University HS) three-pointers and a last-second jumper by Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J./Eastside) to take a 41-40 lead into halftime.
The Bears were able to gain some separation mid-way through the second half, using consecutive lay-ups by Kavione Green (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) and a Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pa./Frankford) three-pointer to go ahead, 61-52, at the 11:25 mark. But by the 7:17 mark, the hosts had knotted the score at 67-67 after a Compas three.
After tying the game again, 73-73, with 5:36 to play, the Felician offense went cold. By the time Spaulding went to the foul line at 2:08, the Bears led by seven. A three by Abdus-Safur with 0:45 remaining made it 86-78 and sealed the victory.
Felician junior Rahsaan Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Chelsea CTE) recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds for his CACC-leading 13th double-double of the season. Washington (eight assists) and Green each finished with 16 points for Bloomfield.
Felician completes its regular season on Saturday, with a 3 p.m. contest against Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.
