ROCKAWAY, N.J. – Felician University women's bowling junior Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) was named to the All-Tournament team of the Cougar Classic, hosted by Caldwell University on Friday through Sunday at Rockaway Lanes.
Felician (11-19) was competing in its fourth tournament of the season, but its first three-day event. More than half the field was nationally ranked, not including the host Cougars, who received votes in the preseason national coaches' poll.
The format for the weekend called for five five-game Baker matches on Friday, followed by five traditional team games on Saturday. A sixth traditional team game began Sunday's play, after which the teams were seeded into a playoff bracket for two best-of-seven Baker matches.
The All-Tournament Team was determined solely from traditional play. Of all players who started at least five matches, Ingulli nabbed the fifth and last spot. She competed in all six games and shot 1163 for an average of 193.83. The 1163 total is the second-highest six-game traditional score in the six-year history of the Felician program. Kristen Keller shot 1188 at the 2014 Virginia Union University Invitational. Ingulli nudged senior teammate Nicole Aumack (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) by five pins for the final All-Tournament slot.
Teamwise, the Golden Falcons placed ninth of 11 schools and went 3-8 in their dual matches. Felician averaged 161.7 per Baker game on Friday and was 0-4, with a bye due to the odd number of teams. The Golden Falcons sat in 10th place after Day 1 but moved up to ninth after the traditional round. Felician gained traditional-play victories over New Jersey City University on Saturday and Bloomfield College on Sunday morning. After being matched with another bye in the first playoff match, Felician completed the tournament by again defeating Bloomfield, 4-1, to maintain its hold on ninth place.
Aside from Ingulli and Aumack, two other Golden Falcons started all six traditional matches. Sophomore Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) shot 989 (164.83 average) and finished 34th, while senior Kristine Verbeke (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) was 36th with 956 (159.33).
Ingulli led Felician in Baker frame average for the weekend with a 16.97 figure, followed by Aumack's 16.93.
No. 7-ranked University of Maryland-Eastern Shore won the tournament, sweeping No. 25 Monmouth University, 4-0, in the championship match. UMES also posted an event-best 11-1 dual-match record for the weekend. Fairleigh Dickinson University's Amanda Chrzanowski was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 206.17 in traditional action.
After competing during each of the first three weekends on the NCAA women's bowling calendar, Felician is idle until the Wildcat Division II/III Invitational, to be hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University on Nov. 15-17.
