Women's Bowling Is Fifth On Day 2 Of Molloy Baker Invitational

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Felician University women's bowling team settled for fifth place out of eight schools at the second half of the Molloy College Baker Invitational, staged on Sunday at AMF East Meadow Lanes

Molloy presented their weekend of competition as separate one-day events, with each tournament consisting of five 5-game Baker matches. Felician won its first two dual matches on Sunday but dropped its final three. The Golden Falcons went 5-5 for the weekend and are now 32-48 in 2018-19 with three tournaments remaining.

As on Saturday, the team standings were determined by total pinfall. The Golden Falcons averaged 169.5 per Baker game, more than a pin better than the previous day, but placed one place lower in the standings as scoring improved overall. With 4,237 pins, Felician was 35 back of fourth-place Kutztown University and 25 ahead of Medaille College in sixth.

Junior right-handers Nicole Aumack (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) and Kristine Verbeke (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) were Felician's most consistent performers over the two days of competition. Aumack led the Golden Falcons with a a Baker frame average of 18.00 on Sunday, pulling her weekend total up to 17.98. Verbeke turned in a Sunday figure of 17.30 and a 10-match average of 17.63

The Golden Falcons recorded lopsided wins over New Jersey City University and St. Thomas Aquinas College to start Sunday in a positive manner. They then shot their best score of the weekend, 903, but were done in by a 1,010 from Caldwell University.

During Match 4, Felician shot only one game above 160, but still stayed within striking distance of Kutztown before falling, 838-808. Its last match of the day was even closer, with the Golden Falcons going down to a 879-864 defeat to LIU Post.

Freshman Kaitlyn Lowey (Fords, N.J./Union Catholic) averaged 17.10 per Baker frame on Sunday. Sophomore Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) was at 16.80.

Caldwell easily won the tournament with 4,751 pins, an average of 190.0. The Cougars dropped two matches in the process, however. Three teams – Kutztown, LIU Post, and the host Lions – went 4-1.

Felician returns quickly to action, bowling in the Hawk Flight Invite, hosted by Monmouth University, on Mar. 1-3 in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
