Basket Breaks Out But Felician Defeated By Post

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Freshman guard Josiah Basket (Oak Ridge, N.J./West Milford) scored a season-high 22 points off the Felician University bench but the Golden Falcons dropped their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball decision, 99-79, to visiting Post University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Basket shot 8 for 12 from the field, including 6 of 7 from three-point range. He grabbed four rebounds, also a season high total. Basket entered the night having scored a combined 33 points in his first 12 collegiate games.

The Golden Falcons (4-11, 2-5 CACC) also received an efficient night from freshman guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./East Side). In scoring a season-high 15 points, Amos was 5 for 7 from the field and 5 of 6 at the foul line. He recorded five assists and no turnovers in 34 minutes.

More than half of Felician's points were netted by freshmen.

Prior to the game, Felician's all-time leading scorer, Devon Young '11, was inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame by Felician President Dr. Anne M. Prisco and CACC Commissioner Daniel B. Mara in an on-court ceremony.

Post, meanwhile, won its seventh consecutive game. The Eagles, ranked in a tie for No. 10 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region media poll, took over sole possession of first place in the CACC North Division. Sophomore forward Devonte McCall (Amherst, Mass.) led Post with 20 points and nine rebounds.

The Eagles, who never trailed, jumped out to a 16-1 lead after 3 ½ minutes of action, with the hosts burning two timeouts to no avail. The score was 23-5 with 13 minutes, 35 seconds, left in the opening period when Basket scored for the first time, nailing a three-pointer, but despite his 14 first-half points, the Golden Falcons could make no gains on the scoreboard.

In one stretch, the Eagles scored on 9 of 10 possessions to open a 49-23 bulge with 6:43 to go until the break. Seven consecutive points by Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) helped the Golden Falcons pull to within 56-40 at halftime.

Felician came as close as a 13-point deficit twice in the early stages of the second half, but an 8-0 spurt helped the Eagles maintain control. The spread ranged between 18 and 29 points for the game's final 17 minutes.

Post (12-4, 6-1) sank 15 of 30 shots from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles converted 18 Golden Falcon turnovers into 27 points.

Felician's Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) had 12 points. Jackson finished with nine and Jeff Lewis (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) registered eight points and eight rebounds. Post senior Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) and junior Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass./Chicopee) turned in 18 points apiece.

Felician travels to Newark, Del., on Saturday for a 3 p.m. CACC matchup against Wilmington (Del.) University.
