Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team was on the short end of a 19-2 decision to visiting Roberts Wesleyan College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The teams were meeting for the first time.
Junior James D'Albora (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) and freshman Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored the Felician goals. Freshman Jake Potter (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) led the Golden Falcon defense with three caused turnovers, and junior goalkeeper Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) had 11 saves and a ground ball in 45 minutes, allowing 14 goals.
Roberts Wesleyan (1-2) outshot the Golden Falcons, 57-22. Redhawk junior attackman Hunter Lemieux (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint), who led all players with 11 shots, totaled six goals and one assist. Junior attackman Eli Chalmers (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) notched three goals and one assist for Roberts, and junior attackman Matt Gademske (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) registered two goals and four assists.
Redhawk junior faceoff man Mitch Streety (Buffalo, N.Y./Orchard Park) set the tone for the day when he won the opening duel, broke free down the middle of the field, and scored 17 seconds into the game. D'Albora answered with 1:21 gone by, but it turned out to be the only Felician goal of the first half.
By the time Grasso and the Golden Falcons found the cage again, only 11:29 remained in the contest, and Roberts led, 15-2. Felician was limited to 15 shots during its 47-minute dry spell, only seven of which were on goal.
The Redhawks led, 9-1, at halftime, with Chalmers, Lemieux and Streety scoring twice each. Lemieux then put the game away for the visitors by recording the first four scores of the third quarter over a span of 7:55.
Junior Pat Hynes (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) went the distance in goal for Roberts, stopping 10 shots. The Redhawks won the ground ball battle, 34-25, and captured 18 of 25 faceoffs, led by Streety's 14-for-20 figure.
Felician completes a season-opening three-game homestand by entertaining St. Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
