NEW CASTLE, Del. – Felician University senior Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) bowled 1045 for five games and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Traditional-Play half of the Bud Whitman Memorial NCAA women's bowling event hosted by Chestnut Hill College on Sunday at Bowlerama.
Swindell began her day with a 231 score and completed it with a 237 effort. In averaging 209.0 for the day, she posted the third-highest five-game traditional tournament series in the eight-year history of the Felician program. She finished third out of 39 individual competitors in the six-team event to grab an All-Tournament honor for the third time in her career.
The Golden Falcons averaged 177.7 as a team and finished third in the final standings, which were based on total pinfall. However, they went 1-4 in their dual matches, and compiled a 2-8 dual record for the weekend.
Fifth-year senior Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) was the only other Golden Falcon to start all five of Sunday's matches. She totaled 851, with a high game of 197, and placed 16th. Sophomore Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) felled 741 pins during four matches (high game of 225) and was 19th.
After starting the day with a loss to eventual champion Mount St. Mary's (Md.) University, Felician suffered tight setbacks to Kutztown University (826-820) and the host Griffins (862-838). Led by a 221 from Howard and Swindell's 217, the Golden Falcons then put together a 978 to get past the 956 of Caldwell University for their only dual win of the day. The weekend ended with a 957-921 loss to Wilmington (Del.) University.
Mount St. Mary's set a scoring pace that was difficult to match. The Mountaineers averaged 202.6 for the day. They won all five of their matches and went 10-0 for the weekend. Mountaineer Alyssa Alexander was the event's Most Valuable Player with 1125, including a 277 game.
Mount St. Mary's is the host of Felician's next tournament – the Mount Shootout on Oct. 16-17 in Emmitsburg, Md.
