FREDERICK, Md. – The Felician University women's bowling team went 7-3 in dual matches and finished third out of eight teams at the Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's (Md.) University on Saturday and Sunday at Terrace Lanes. Sophomore right-hander Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was named to the event's All-Tournament Team, the first such recognition of her career.
The tournament format called for five traditional team matches on Saturday followed by five 5-game Baker matches on Sunday, with the team standings determined by total pinfall. Felician felled 8,389 pins for an all-format per-game average of 167.8, finishing behind only the host Mountaineers (9,661) and Kutztown University (8,577).
The Golden Falcons were 3-2 in duals during Saturday's traditional play, highlighted by a 907-848 Match 3 victory over No. 13 nationally-ranked Mount St. Mary's. On Sunday, Felician dropped its opening match to Chestnut Hill College before rattling off four consecutive victories. Of the Golden Falcons' three losses on the weekend, two were by 25 pins or fewer.
All-tournament status was bestowed upon the top five players in traditional-format average who started at least four matches. Howard started the final four matches and produced games of 184-235-143-209. Her average of 192.8 placed her third among qualifying players.
Senior captain Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) was the only Felician player who was entered into all five of Saturday's matches. She shot 885, an average of 177.0, and placed seventh of 52 in total pinfall. She was eighth of 33 in average among all-tournament qualifiers.
Mount St. Mary's went 9-1 in dual matches, with the only loss coming to the Golden Falcons. The Mountaineers' Amanda Yeung was the tournament Most Valuable Player, with a 1012 for her five traditional matches.
Felician (9-11) will next participate in the Sacred Heart University Bowl for the Cure Baker Invitational, to be held on Oct. 24 in Fairfield, Conn.
