Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Despite owning the night's shooting advantage, the Felician University women's soccer team went down to a 4-1 defeat to visiting Georgian Court University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Sophomore transfer Lindsay Whaley (Subic Bay, Philippines/Brent International School) scored her first NCAA goal for Felician (1-6, 0-3 CACC).
The Golden Falcons outshot Georgian Court, 21-13, for the match, including 12-5 in the first half. But the Lion defense contained the Felician attack, and most of the attempts from the hosts were strikes from long range. GCU junior goalkeeper Alyssa Dias (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) earned the victory with eight saves.
The Lions (2-6, 1-2) dented the scoreboard just six minutes, 56 seconds, into the action, on a header by graduate student Haley Pignatelli (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany). With 3:19 left in the opening period, GCU struck again on an unassisted tally by Aliya Canfield (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South).
The Lions padded their advantage by scoring during the 52nd and 67th minutes. When Whaley took a feed from classmate Katinka Ummels (Urmond, Netherlands/Graaf Huyn College) and snuck a shot inside the left post, 20:08 remained in regulation. But Dias made two saves down the stretch and Felician was unable to find the net again.
Whaley led all players with seven shots. Golden Falcon sophomore keeper Alexis Lambertino (Hammonton, N.J./Sterling) made five saves in 45 minutes of relief work.
The Golden Falcons travel to Caldwell University on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. whistle in Caldwell, N.J.
