Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Bloomfield College scored with one minute, 15 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to claim a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host Felician University on Thursday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The game had been rescheduled from Tuesday due to that day's nor'easter.
Junior defender Chloe Bellerby (Harrogate, England/Rossett School) recorded the game winning goal for Bloomfield (3-10, 1-8 CACC). The match was the final one at home for Felician this season.
The Golden Falcons (1-13, 0-9) wasted little time snatching the lead. Sophomore Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) collected a pass from junior Aroa Herrero Nieto (Almeria, Spain/IES Las Marinas) and knocked a shot past Bear sophomore goalkeeper Mia Phillip (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) two minutes, six seconds, into the action. Felician sophomore keeper Alexis Lambertino (Hammonton, N.J./Sterling) stopped two shots, including a 1 v. 1 opportunity, and senior defender Amy Aguilar-Almazo (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) cleared another ball off the goal line to help the hosts preserve the 1-0 edge into halftime.
The back-and-forth action created several opportunities for both sides during period two. Phillip made six second-half saves. Her efforts nearly paid off during the 61st minute when Riley Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) hit the left goalpost with a shot and a teammate pushed the rebound high.
The Bears continued pressure was eventually rewarded. Junior O'Vanna Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Heights) event the score with 9:52 to play on a well-placed high strike. Felician gained three corner kicks in the time that remained but came up empty.
As extra time wound down, the clock was stopped when a Felican foul resulted in a caution being issued. Bellerby slipped behind the defense on Karissa Jivraj's (Markam, Ontario/Bur Oak) free kick, and knocked it home on a bounce.
The teams combined for 52 fouls (29-23 Felician) and six yellow cards (3-3). Phillip earned the victory with nine saves, while Lambertino was credited with six.
Felician plays at Thomas Jefferson University on Saturday at noon in Philadelphia.
