Efficient Effort Pleases Home Crowd As Men's Basketball Wins, 84-69

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team used a fast start and a solid two-way effort to produce an 84-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Bloomfield College before an estimated 475 raucous fans at Job Gymnasium. Both teams were playing their first league game of the 2021-22 season.

Juniors Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) and Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) topped Felician with 19 points each. The Golden Falcons shot 52 percent from the floor, owned a 45-29 rebounding advantage, and committed only five personal fouls on the night.

Felician (3-2, 1-0 CACC) moved ahead, 9-8, on a Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) layup with 15 minutes, nine seconds, remaining in the first half, and never trailed again. The shot came near the beginning of an 18-3 Golden Falcon run which saw the hosts open a 15-point bulge at the midpoint of the opening period. Felician settled for a 44-35 halftime advantage.

The Golden Falcons scored the first four points of period two. By the 15:02 mark, Felician held its largest lead of the night, 59-39, following a Jackson layup. The Bears came no closer than a 13-point deficit for the balance of the evening.

Amos finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Felician junior Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) collected 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Golden Falcon freshman Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland/Colaiste Choilm) picked up his first NCAA double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The hosts received nine points and six boards from junior Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken).

Junior guard Tyrek Battle-Holley (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) topped Bloomfield (1-4, 0-1) with 21 points, six rebounds and four steals.

With the victory, Felician head coach Ivan Lewis moved past Darryl Jacobs and into second place on the school's all-time wins list with 67. Lewis, a 2004 graduate of Felician, played for Jacobs with the Golden Falcons. Lewis is two victories away from tying Dave DeFerrari for the program record.

Felician travels to Orangeburg, N.Y., on Saturday for a CACC matchup with nationally-ranked Dominican College. Tip off time is set for 3 p.m.
