Amos, Saliba Lead Men's Basketball Past Caldwell, 84-74

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Sophomore guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) played his most efficient game as a collegian and combined with his Felician University teammates to make 15 three-point field goals as the Golden Falcons defeated visiting Caldwell University, 84-74, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Thursday evening at Job Gymnasium.

Amos was 7 for 9 from the floor and recorded 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, all career highs. He totaled 13 points and six assists during a second half which saw Felician shoot 64 percent to pull away. The Golden Falcons (2-0, 2-0 CACC) netted 51 second half points to erase a slim 34-33 halftime deficit.

Felician junior transfer B.J. Saliba (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) was 5 of 7 from three-point range and totaled 19 points and seven rebounds. The Golden Falcons received 16 points from sophomore Deiker Padrino (Bogota, N.J./Bogota), including 13 after halftime.

The hosts went ahead to stay, 38-36, on a Padrino three with 17 minutes, 56 seconds, left in regulation time. Felician opened a seven-point edge on consecutive treys by Amos and Saliba, the latter with 13:53 remaining. The lead hovered between four and eight points until the second of back-to-back threes from Golden Falcon junior Etnik Peci (Pristina, Kosovo/Renaissance Academy [Calif.]) made it 73-64 at the 3:53 mark.

Felician sealed the victory when Padrino followed a Dee-End Mcrae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) bucket with a steal and breakaway layup for a 77-66 edge and 2:49 remaining.

Junior Anthony Cooper (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) led Caldwell (2-2, 2-2) with 22 points and added seven rebounds. Caldwell entered the game ranked No. 3 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region media poll. Junior Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J-JFK Paterson) tallied 12 points and four assists for Felician as each side put four scorers in double figures.

Felician faces its third regionally-ranked team to start the season on Saturday, when it travels to No. 2 regional and No. 24 national Dominican (N.Y.) College. Spectators are not allowed to attend CACC games in person this season and are encouraged to follow conference basketball action via webstream at www.caccnetwork.com.
