Men's Basketball Surpassed By Bloomfield, 74-69

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team was unable to outlast host Bloomfield College on Tuesday evening, coming up on the short end of a 74-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference decision to the Bears at Bloomfield College Gymnasium.

Felician junior guard Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) led all scorers with 20 points and added four assists. Classmate B.J. Saliba (Hackensack, N.J.) totaled 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Falcons, who led, 38-29, at halftime, and by as many as 11 points during the second period, were still ahead, 63-55, following a Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) free throw with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation time. But the visitors were outscored, 19-6, the rest of the way. Senior forward Rich Chapman (Newark, N.J.) gave Bloomfield the lead for good, 67-65, with a three-point field goal at the 1:27 mark. After a Bear defensive stop, Chapman buried another three for a five-point edge.

Bloomfield's Isaiah Sparks (Ewing, N.J.) scored 19 points with six rebounds. Chapman finished with 15 points and six boards in 20 bench minutes. McRae amassed 12 points and 15 rebounds for Felician (2-2, 2-2 CACC).

The Golden Falcons tallied the final nine points of the first half, then saw McRae open the second-period scoring with a layup for their largest lead, 40-29. But in the closing minutes, Bloomfield went ahead by as many as seven. A late Saliba three pulled Felician back to within one possession, but, with the shot clock off, Chapman sank a pair of foul shots for the final margin.

The teams were meeting for the second consecutive Tuesday. The Bears (4-3, 4-3) earned a split of the CACC regular-season series after Felician was victorious last week in Rutherford.

Felician is back on the road on Thursday to meet CACC foe Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. Spectators are not allowed to attend CACC games in person this season and are encouraged to follow conference basketball action via webstream at www.caccnetwork.com.
