Men's Basketball Caught By First-Place Post, Falls 73-72

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Felician University men's basketball team was unable to knock Post University from the ranks of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference unbeaten on Tuesday night, falling short of the host Eagles, 73-72, in CACC action at the Drubner Center. Felician saw a three-game win streak come to an end, while Post, which remained in first place in the CACC North Division, earned its fifth consecutive victory.

Post (9-6, 5-0 CACC) secured the victory with a three-point field-goal by senior guard David Jasson (Chicago, Ill.) from the right corner with 4.7 seconds remaining in regulation time. The shot capped an Eagle comeback from an 11-point second-half deficit, including from nine back during the final two minutes. Thomas Jefferson University, which resides in the CACC South Division, is the only conference school other than Post not to have lost a league game this season.

Felician junior guard Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) recorded a game-high 20 points and six rebounds. Classmate Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) came off the bench to tally 19 points and five rebounds. Seniors Isaiah Holmes (Lowell, Mass.) (8-11 FG) and Devonte McCall (Amherst, Mass.) (5 rebounds, 4 blocks) scored 17 points each to lead Post.

Felician extended a 40-33 halftime advantage to 45-35 following three Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) free throws with 18 minutes, 47 seconds, remaining in regulation time. The Eagles rallied to briefly move ahead, 53-52, but the visitors went back in front on Colon's second-chance jump shot at the 10:08 mark.

Clinging to that same one-point margin three minutes later, Felician netted 10 consecutive points, including six by Colon, for a 69-58 edge with 4:37 left. But the Golden Falcons would score only three more points for the rest of the night.

After a successful Jasson jumper on Post's next possession, the score remained 69-60 for nearly 2 ½ minutes of game time. A Holmes layup broke the spell, and a three-point play by McCall followed a Felician turnover and another Holmes bucket made it 69-67. Davis appeared to stabilize the Golden Falcons with a putback dunk at 0:21, but out of a timeout, McCall made a three-pointer with 14 seconds left to keep the Eagles' hopes alive.

Post fouled Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) in the backcourt, and the Felician junior made the front-end of a one-and-one but missed the second. The Eagles rebounded and pushed the ball upcourt with McCall finding Jasson for the eventual game-winner. A long McRae jumper fell short as the final buzzer sounded.

Felician was held to a season-low 35 percent from the field, offsetting its 52-39 rebounding edge. McRae finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists and Davis had 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Jasson registered 16 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles.

Felician travels to Philadelphia on Saturday for a 3 p.m. CACC tipoff against the University of the Sciences.
