Davis Explodes For 37, But Men's Basketball Falls Short Of Bloomfield

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Felician University cut a 19-point second-half deficit to four but could not complete its comeback, eventually falling to host Bloomfield College, 77-67, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at BC Gymnasium.

Felician junior swingman Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) netted 37 points, the most by a Golden Falcon in four years, and added nine rebounds. Davis, who was 13 for 21 from the floor, including 6 of 10 from three-point range, was two points shy of the program record shared by Felician Hall of Famers Antoine Obery and Devon Young.

Junior forward Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) accumulated 15 points, six rebounds and six assists for Felician (9-6, 4-3 CACC), which received zero bench points and was held 17 points below its CACC-leading scoring average. Junior forward Josh Morris (Ewing, N.J.) scored 18 points with six rebounds for Bloomfield, which owned a 46-34 rebounding advantage.

The Golden Falcons led, 13-12, following a McRae jump shot just over nine minutes into the action. But Bear senior Tariq McKenith (Newark, N.J.) followed with a putback layup and the hosts never trailed again. Bloomfield concluded the first period with a 17-8 run over the final four-plus minutes to extend its edge to 42-29 at halftime.

Bloomfield freshman Wesley Robinson (Burlington, N.J.) netted six consecutive points to hand his team its largest bulge of the night, 64-45, with 9:26 to play in regulation time. The visitors countered with a 16-3 run that took only 3 ½ minutes of game time, with eight straight Davis points pulling Felician to within 67-61.

The Golden Falcons crept as close as 69-65 following a Davis layup at the 4:07 mark. But Felician faltered on both ends during the final minutes, missing its next five field-goal attempts while allowing the Bears multiple offensive rebounds and four second-chance points to pull away.

Morris topped four Bear double-figure scorers. Bloomfield (7-11, 5-4) received 16 points and eight rebounds from sophomore Andres Fulgencio (Teaneck, N.J.). The Bears gained a split of the CACC season series between the schools, with Felician winning on Dec. 1 in Rutherford.

Davis became the sixth player in the 26-year history of the Felician program to score at least 35 points in a game.

Felician returns home to take on Holy Family University at Job Gymnasium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
