Men's Basketball Falls In Regular-Season Finale; Playoffs Start Tuesday

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite 22 points and seven rebounds from sophomore guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side), the Felician University men's basketball team was defeated by visiting Post University, 89-76, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday night at Job Gymnasium. The game marked the end of the regular season for both schools.

The game did not impact the final CACC standings. Post (19-8, 15-2 CACC) had already wrapped up the CACC North Division regular-season title earlier in the week and Felician was locked into the division's No. 3 seed by other league results on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Falcons will travel to Chestnut Hill College, the No. 2 seed from the South Division, on Tuesday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. for a quarterfinal game of the 2022 CACC Championship tournament.

Amos topped five Felician double-figure scorers. Juniors Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) (five rebounds, five assists), Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken) (eight rebounds) and Etnik Peci (Pristina, Kosovo/Renaissance Academy [Calif.]) netted 14 points each and junior Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) scored 12.

Felician (16-9, 11-6) fell behind, 27-11, after nine minutes of action. By halftime, however, the Golden Falcons had eliminated the entire deficit and evened the score at 43-43.

The hosts took their largest lead of the night, 60-52, following Colon's three-point field goal with 13:34 left in regulation time. But Post quickly scored the next nine points, capped by a three from D.J. Frechette (Nashua, N.H./Governor's Academy [Mass.]). A successful David Jasson (Chicago, Ill./Wilbur Wright JC) jump shot gave the Eagles the lead for good, 65-64, at the 8:52 mark, and by 5:04, the visitors were on top by 10 following a putback by Devonte McCall (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional.). The final margin was Post's largest of the second half.

Jasson led all scorers with 23 points. McCall finished with 21 points and eight rebounds, and Frechette added 18 points. Post built a 47-28 rebounding advantage, led by 19 rebounds (plus seven points) from senior Abdul-Basit Ajia (Pawtucket, R.I./Bradford Christian Academy).
