Hot-Shooting Golden Falcons Ground Lightning, 91-81

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Felician University men's basketball team shot a season-best 60.3 percent from the floor during its 91-81 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center.

Felician (12-7, 7-4 CACC) put five scorers in double figures, led by 22 points -- including 17 in the second half -- from junior wing Etnik Peci (Pristina. Kosovo). Junior swingman Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) turned in 18 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, N.J.) led Goldey-Beacom with 23 points.

The Golden Falcons emerged from a back-and-forth first half with a 45-41 lead. However, after trailing by as many as seven points early in the second period, the Lightning evened the score at 52-52 on a Zack Oree (Newark, N.J.) dunk. Five minutes later, the hosts took their first lead of the half, 66-63 following consecutive three-point field goals by Jones.

With Felician trailing, 70-66, as the game clock wound under 7 ½ minutes, Peci ignited the Golden Falcons, tallying his team's next 15 points over a four-minute stretch. His jumper at the 6:10 mark put Felician ahead for good, 74-72, and he followed with a pair of free-throws and a three-pointer to give the visitors a seven-point edge with 4:59 to play. The Lightning came as close as 83-79 before another Peci jump shot at 2:52 helped hold them off, and the final 10-point margin was Felician's largest of the day.

Felician shot 60 percent or better from the floor for the first time since setting the school record of 63.3 percent versus Caldwell University on Feb. 26, 2020. Junior Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) collected 15 points and nine rebounds and sophomore Nas Amos (Newark, N.J.) totaled 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Junior Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) posted his second "double-double" of the season with 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Felician was 12 for 25 from three-point range (48 percent). Its hot shooting counteracted its season-high-matching 22 turnovers. Sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) scored 17 points for Goldey-Beacom (10-10, 6-5).

Felician completes a stretch of five games in nine days with a makeup contest versus Wilmington (Del.) University on Monday at 8 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
