WILMINGTON, Del. – Felician University captured its final two dual matches to salvage a 2-3 record on Day 1 of the two-day Griffin Baker Classic NCAA women's bowling event, hosted by Chestnut Hill College on Saturday and Sunday at Bowlero Prices Corner.
The event is being staged as two separate one-day tournaments. Each day the teams are competing in five 5-game Baker matches, with the final standings being determined by total pinfall. Felician felled 4,184 pins on Saturday, a per-game average of 167.4, and finished sixth out of nine teams.
Senior Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) led Felician on the day with a frame average of 18.64. Freshman Sandra Hornor (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) bowled to a 17.36 figure, and senior Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) averaged 17.12 per frame on the day. Swindell bowled the "anchor" position (5th and 10th frames) during all five matches.
The Golden Falcons began the day with a slim three-pin loss to Molloy College before suffering setbacks to No. 23 Adelphi University and to Kutztown University. A convincing victory over St Thomas Aquinas College put Felician in the win column, and it finished Saturday's play with a narrow 870-865 triumph over Bloomfield College.
The middle of the standings was tight, with Felician finishing just eight pins behind fifth-place Caldwell University and eight ahead of Kutztown in seventh. Wilmington (Del.) University won the tournament with 4,439 pins (177.6 average), 18 ahead of runner-up Adelphi.
Felician enters Sunday's play with a 30-34 dual-match record on the season, including 11-6 during the spring semester.
