Game Recap: #11 Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Sets Program Record with Eight Game Win Streak

SPARKILL, N.Y. - On Sept. 9, the men's soccer squad traveled to Sparkill, N.Y. and played St. Thomas Aquinas College for one full half of 45-minutes. With the score tied at one, the former heat wave aroused lightning in the area to suspend the game with 41:55 left in the second half. Almost one month later, the Golden Falcons hit the road to meet the Spartans on the field once again to finalize the match which laid in favor of the green-and-gold, 2-1.

During the initial moments of the match, the hosts forced the Golden Falcons on their heels as they out shot them 5-3 to ultimately find the back of the net for the 1-0 lead mid way through the first. Just six minutes later, the Golden Falcons seized the opportunity to equalize the score when Alvaro Martin Castedo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) booted a penalty kick goal for the 1-1 tie. As the first 45-minutes came to an end, the second half was only allowed over three-minutes of play before the game was delayed then eventually suspended to the October meeting.

By the 60th-minute mark in the resumption, the Golden Falcons edged the Spartans when Manuel Otero (Sanxenxo, Spain) found the foot of Riccardo Benini (Bologna, Italy) for the go-ahead goal and the 2-1 win for the program record of eight straight wins.

So far during the 2023 season, the men's soccer squad has racked up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly awards and honorable mentions, set program records, and will continue to work their way up in the East Regional rankings for the second consecutive season. They improve their record to 9-1-1 overall.

The Golden Falcons were set to play Jefferson University to return to CACC play, but had the game changed due to forecasted weather to Oct. 23 at 3:00pm in Philadelphia, P.A. Their next match will be in Rindge, N.H. to face the top ranked soccer team in the east region, Franklin Pierce, at 4:00pm on Oct. 17.
