BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Felician volleyball posted its seventh win in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as they tackled the Bloomfield College Bears, 3-1, on the road Tuesday evening. The Golden Falcons posted a 2-0 lead with the match sweep in reach until the Bears battled back to force a fourth set.
Karla Maldonado (Morovis, Puerto Rico) paced the green-and-gold with 12 kills and 20 digs while
Megan Barker (St. Catharine's, Ontario) had eight.
Mariam Kromah (Willingboro, N.J.) was in front of the net with seven blocks alongside
Sara Betts (Goodyear, A.Z.) who had five.
With the Golden Falcons holding the hosts to under 20-points in each of the first two sets (25-13, 25-18), the green-and-gold were just 25-points away from their second 3-0 sweep against the Bears this season. Felician found themselves in a rut early into the third set as Bloomfield held a 3-7 lead. After the host's 12th points, the Golden Falcons posted a seven point rally on two Baker and Maldonado kills, two Barker services aces and a few Bears errors for the 14-12 score change. Despite the Golden Falcons rally, the Bears retaliated to have the score sit tied at 23 to ultimately see it display 26-24 in favor of the hosts... forcing a fourth set.
Bloomfield proceeded to maintain their momentum as they rallied 7 consecutive points to take a swift 0-7 lead to start the fourth. Once Felician was able to get on the board, they soared through the set to tie at 10 until
Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) gave the green-and-gold the lead on a service ace - one of three in the contest. The score was equalized for a final time, 12-12, and Maldonado shifted the set towards the green-and-gold on a kill, 13-12, to ultimately have the Golden Falcons run away with the 3-1 match win.
Tonight's win improves the Felician volleyball record to 9-12 overall and 7-3 in the CACC. They will be back in action on Saturday to host Wilmington (Del.) for Felician's Homecoming event in JJJ Gymnasium at 1:00pm.
