RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Women's Volleyball (9-13 / 7-4 CACC) hosted the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats in JJJ Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Falcons held a 2-0 match lead over the visitors, however, the Wildcats clawed their way back to win the next three sets and handed the Golden Falcons the 2-3 loss.
Aside from having 64 kills as a unit, Felician posted 31 errors to aid in the opposer win.
Karla Maldonado (Morovis, Puerto Rico) recorded 19 kills while
Sara Betts (Goodyear, A.Z.) had 12.
Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) had a few bump kills on play saving digs to give her four in the kill column while snagging 31 digs, a season high and sit tied for 9th - once again - in the record book for Digs in a Match.
The Golden Falcons were cruising through the first two sets as the green-and-gold won 25-23 and 25-22 respectively. During the third, the Wildcats were up 6-1 early into the match to eventually extend their lead to 14-6. They held the hosts to only 18 points in the set as they forced a fourth after the 18-25 third set finish. Similarly to the start of the third, Felician was shoved into a deficit as the opposer battled for a 7-2 lead and flowed with their momentum to - for a second time - hold Felician to under 20 points and have the match become equalized at 2-2.
The fifth set started with a Felician rally, 5-3, ignited Maldonado kills and a
Sophia Watterson ace (Bowling Green, K.Y.). The scoreboard soon displayed 9-7 when
Megan Barker (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) and Martinez posted a kill of their own. The Wildcats converted on two host attack errors which flipped the score in favor of the opposer.
Tatum Williams (Corona, C.A.) tied the score at 11 on a kill but it was not enough to stop Wilmington as they handed Felician the 12-15 final set loss.
The women's volleyball team will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Dominican (N.Y.) University for another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up at 7:00pm.
