WATERBURY, C.T. - Felician Women's Volleyball had themselves a five set dual with Post University Eagles on foreign grounds in Connecticut Tuesday evening. The Golden Falcons held a 2-1 lead after three matches until the Eagles were able to force a winner takes all fifth set, in which Felician ran away with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win, 3-2.
As a unit, the green-and-gold set a new Felician team record with 18 blocks in a match; a record that hasn't been recorded since 2008.
Tatum Williams (Corona, C.A.) was the impressive presence in front of the net with five blocks while
Ashanna Caviness (Bogota, N.J.) had four and
Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) and
Sophia Watterson (Bowling Green, K.Y.)  had three.
With an all around team achievement, the freshmen duo of
Megan Barker (St. Catharine's, Ontario) and Caviness paved the way for the Golden Falcons win when Barker recorded 15 kills and Caviness had 14.
The Golden Falcons dropped in the first set when the Eagles swiftly took the 25-16 win. While trailing 0-1, the second set bled green-and-gold when Felician equalized the match 1-1 after a 25-13 second set win. The third to fifth set had you on the edge of your seat. The Golden Falcons trailed 23-22 after a service error to then have the score sit tied at 24 and Vucic put an end to the third on a kill, 26-24. Felician just needed the fourth set win to run away with the overall match, however, a battle and a consistent rally forced the set to go to over 30 points on both sides. The Eagles forced a fifth and final set after the 33-31 win.
In the winner takes all set, the Golden Falcons held the hosts to six points as they tallied five consecutive points on kills by Barker, Betts, and Vucic and two Watterson service aces.
The volleyball squad is now 5-11 overall and is 3-2 in the CACC. They will continue conference play in JJJ Gymnasium when they host Caldwell on Thursday at 7:00pm.
