RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician men's soccer finalized their last regular season match of 2023 when they hosted #9 Post University, Wednesday afternoon at Tryon Field. The Golden Falcons would be kept scoreless in the first to fight their way back on a free-kick goal opportunity for a 1-1 draw with the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season champion squad.
Right off the bat, the Eagles posted two shots on goal to instantly put on the pressure for the hosts.
Riccardo Benini (Bologna, Italy) sparked the Felician offense when he recorded the first shot of the match at the 15-minute mark, however, not long after, the Eagles would net the first goal of the contest to edge the Golden Falcons, 1-0.
Just like how the first half started, the Eagles created a pattern when they recorded six shots in comparison to the host's zero, in an attempt to propel themselves further in front with the lead.
Emanuele Moretti (Rome, Italy) snatched four of his eight saves during that time to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of the visiting squad.
It was not long after when the momentum had a sudden shift in direction. The Golden Falcons urgently posted two major scoring opportunities when
Manuel Otero's (Sanxenxo, Spain) shot was blocked in front of the goal and
Gianluca Trastulli's (Rome, Italy) bounced off the post and out of play. In the 77th-minute, Benini was positioned on the far right side of the goal for a free kick opportunity after an Eagle foul. Off his own boot, the ball took a curve towards the left side of the net and buzzed passed the keeper to equalize the match and force the 1-1 draw with the ranked CACC squad.
Hugo Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) led the Felician offense with four shots, while Benini and Otero had two apiece.
With the regular season coming to a close, the Golden Falcons (10-5-2 / 7-3-1 CACC) currently sit in the #2 seed in the CACC playoff standings. They will look to host the Quarterfinal match-up on Monday, November 6, against #7 Georgian Court at Tryon Field. Time TBD.
