COLCHESTER, V.T. - Felician men's basketball ignited their 2023-24 campaign at the Best Western Windjammer Doc Jacobs Classic, hosted by Saint Michael's College, Friday evening against the Assumption Univeristy Greyhounds. In the first ever meeting between the two teams, the Golden Falcons captured the 20-point victory, 88-68, to start their season off on a hefty foot.
Here's What Happened:
- The Greyhounds held their largest lead of 7, 12-19, through 12-minutes of play in the first half. The Golden Falcons used their bench depth to their advantage bringing in Julius David Jr. (Rutherford, N.J.) and Abdul Shanunu (Bronx, N.Y.), who secured five points for the green-and-gold to kick start their offensive progress.
- With the score tied at 29 after a Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) and-one, he graduate student gave Felician the 30-29 lead that ultimately extended to 42-37 going into intermission.
- Not even 30-seconds into the second-half, Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) laid in a quick two-pointer that aided in Felician's edge of the Greyhounds. Amos would then net their largest lead thus far in the night (12) on a jumper.
- Freshman, Tavian Pullock (Paterson, N.J.), became the mastermind behind the Felician run when he netted his first collegiate points from behind the arch and put the Greyhounds attempted comeback to rest, 67-58.
- The largest lead of 21 for the Golden Falcons came from two freebees by Colon, 87-66.
Team Statistics:
- Felician shot 81% from the line - went a perfect 7-7 in the first half.
- After a first half 30% three-point percentage, the Golden Falcons offense was guided by the 20% increase to 50 after going 4-8 in the second.
- Majory of the Golden Falcon's points came from the paint, however, the green-and-gold saw 31 of the come from their bench, 17 from second-chance opportunities, and 20-point conversions off turnovers.
Key Players of the Game:
Felician had five athletes record double-digit points.
- Amos paced the team with 16-points - Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) had 14, Colon had 13, Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) had 12, and David Jr. had 10.
- Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) and McRae had 7 rebounds each while Amos and Davis had six.
Men's Basketball set the tone for the weekend with one more game left in the tournament. The squad will post up with the hosts, St. Michael's College, at 4:00pm tomorrow afternoon.
