Colon and Amos Fuel Golden Falcons in Conference Victory

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician men's basketball welcomed the 2022-23 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions, Caldwell University, to JJJ Gymnasium Wednesday night. In an intense thriller, Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) and Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) had the hot hands that aided in the massive victory for their first conference win, 89-84, of the season.

If you didn't have the chance to tune into the CACC Network to witness the suspension yourself, let us fill you in on the action that submerged the gymnasium.

Here's What Happened:
  • Felician opened the contest with an immediate 12-0 run. By the 27th green-and-gold point, the Cougars momentarily halted the Felician momentum and robbed the lead, 33-30. Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) equalized the score at 33 from with a massive bucket from beyond the arc.
  • Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) put the Golden Falcons back up by one, 36-35, as the contest entered intermission.
  • The hardwood in the second half became a battle ground with both teams attempting to hold the lead. Another Felician run, 13-2, enabled the hosts to extend their score to 12 and then eventually 13 when Amos secured his first of four treys after a Cougar possession, 55-42.
  • In addition to the Falcon run, plays like dunks and alley oop opportunities from Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) filled the Felician gas tank and they accelerated throughout the contest.
  • Amos would go on to record 18 of his 19 points in the second half, 12 of them happened to be from the long range, however, as Amos was slightly running cold, Colon was there to pick up the squad and capture critical points to keep his team in the contest.
  • The score became equalized at 63, but the tie didn't last long when Amos drove into the lane for a quick 2 points. However, Caldwell's transition offense aided in their own advantage when they led the hosts 68-71 with just a little over eight minutes remaining.
  • After three more lead changes, the Golden Falcons were able to secure the final switch on a McRae mid-range to have Felician run away with the 89-84 victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Colon and Amos both recorded 19 points and three steals apiece. Colon finished the night with six rebounds while Amos had five assists and four rebounds.
  • McRae captured 13 points and Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) had 11 and nine rebounds, the highest on the team for the night.
  • In just 15-minutes, freshman Tavian Pullock (Paterson, N.J.) had seven points and shot 3-4 from the field and 1-1 from three.
  • The Golden Falcons dominated the boards when they out rebounded the Cougars 42-38, 14 of them on the offensive end for second chance points (22).
  • Felician shot 46% (35-77) from the field, 47% (9-19) from three and 67% (10-15) from the line. Jackson went a perfect 4-4 at the end of the contest on forced fouls and sealed the deal for the Golden Falcons victory.
As the Golden Falcons improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, they will continue conference play on Saturday when they play Bloomfield College on the road for a 3:00pm tip-off.
