Saints Second Half Stride Tackles Golden Falcons to Close Non-Conference Play

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Felician men's basketball capped off their non-conference schedule at D'Youville University in Buffalo, N.Y. Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Falcons trailed by three at the half, but the Saints' second half dominance pummeled the green-and-gold for the 74-94 loss.

Felician wrapped up the 2023 year with a 6-7 overall record and a 2-0 record in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Here's What Happened:
  • Felician opened the afternoon on a 8-3 run and the score was eventually equalized at eight for the first and only tie of the contest. Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) would net a three for the 11-8 advantage and would continue to edge the hosts after Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) captured a layup until the 13-14 score flip happened..
  • Since the Saints held the 13-14 lead over the Golden Falcons, they never relinquished it, however, Felician would slash the lead to one on a Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) bucket, 32-33, but they would never overcome the deficit.
  • Coming out of half time, the Golden Falcons trailed by three and Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) would make it a one point game, 37-38, going 2-2 from the charity stripe. Despite the efforts, the green-and-gold couldn't retrieve the upper hand.
  • The Saints ended up going on a 17-4 run and forced a Felician timeout as the hosts extended their lead to 14, 41-55. Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) and Jackson would put the Golden Falcons into a single digit deficit (9), but after every effort displayed by the Golden Falcons was upended by the Saints as they ran away with the 20 point win, 74-94.
Box Score Insights:
  • Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) led the Golden Falcons with 19 points, 4 assists, and three steals, while McRae was the second highest scorer with 18 and captured two steals.
  • Jackson shot 5-7 (71%) from behind the arc for 17 points and Tovar defended the rack with three blocks.
  • The Golden Falcons shot 42% from the field and 42% from the free throw line in the Tuesday loss.
  • D'Youville dominated the boards with 51 and kept the Golden Falcons to only 27, however, Felician was able to force 22 Saints turnovers that were ultimately converted to only 14 points.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action in the new year on Jan. 3 when they jump back into conference play and host the University of Bridgeport at 8:00pm.
