Men's Basketball Snap Losing Skid and Topple Bridgeport at Home

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - In a tough non-conference schedule to open up the 2023-24 season, Felician men's basketball entered Wednesday night's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on a four game losing skid. With the Golden Falcons sharp shooting from the field, they were able to start the second half of their season on a high note and tackled the University of Bridgeport in JJJ Gymnasium, 105-85.

Paterson, N.J duo, graduate student Jaylen Colon and rookie Tavian Pullock, both captured 20-point games with Colon shooting 4-6 and Pullock 5-6 from behind the arc to secure the win to remain undefeated in the CACC (3-0).

Here's What Happened:
  • In the first few minutes of regulation, the Purple Knights were able to hold a 5-6 lead over the Golden Falcons even though it was short lived on Colon's first bucket of the night, 7-6. From there, the green-and-gold would tally points from Colon, Pullock, and Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) for the nine point lead, 15-6 and ultimately extended their advantage to 19 on a Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Bruinswick, N.J.) trey, 49-30, later on.
  • As the first half concluded, the Golden Falcons held the upper hand by 12, 54-42, shooting 52% (20-38) from the field and 41% (7-17) from the long range.
  • The first two minutes of the second half there was silence and not one point was recorded. Abdul Shanunu (Accra, Ghana) shattered the cold streak with a fast break lay up to continue to pile onto the Felician lead as well as Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) with a bucket in the paint 62-46.
  • Colon bucketed the largest lead of the night of 21 on a three, 76-55, but I wouldn't try to count Bridgeport out just quite yet as they made an attempted comeback and slashed the deficit to 11 with just a little over 2 minutes remaining on the clock.
  • Despite the Purple Knights efforts, the Golden Falcons ended the contest on a pair from the line to close out the night with a 20 point in, 105-85, to enter the winner's circle once again and remain undefeated in CACC play.
Box Score Insights:
  • Colon finished up with 26 points to lead the green-and-gold while Pullock had a career high of 20.
  • Tovar recorded 15-points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks and Fitzpatrick and Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) had 13 points apiece; Amos also tallied seven assists to aid in the victory.
  • The Golden Falcons concluded with a 53 shot percentage from the field and 42% from behind the arc. As a whole, the team was able to record 25 assists, 11 steals and five blocks while also shooting 80% from the charity stripe.
The Golden Falcons (7-7 / 3-0 CACC) will be back in action on Saturday to play Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, P.A. for another CACC match-up at 3:00pm.
