Soccer Shut Out by Visiting Spartans

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician Women's Soccer hosted St. Thomas Aquinas College Wednesday afternoon at Tryon Field. After a 1-0 first half, the Spartans rallied two more goals to shut out the hosts 3-0 to give the Golden Falcons its third loss of the season (0-3-2).

The green-and-gold set the momentum during the first 12-minutes of play when the Golden Falcons recorded 4 shots compared to the opposer one. Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J.) recorded two, one on goal, Jalyn Tse (Queens, N.Y.) posted one and Bianca Revenga (Caracas, Venezuela)  kept up the Felician pace with a shot of her own but could not sneak behind the hands of the opposer keeper.

After a Felician take down, the officials awarded a Spartan a free kick in front of the goal box that ultimately soared just above green-and-gold keeper, Alexis Lambertino (Hammonton, N.J.) to shift the momentum away from Golden Falcon play. Fast forward to the 34th minute, Lambertino made a score saving dive to keep the deficit to one goal as they headed into intermission.

The Spartans were full steam ahead coming out of the half when they recorded nine shots in the second half to have two of those find the back of the net to give Felician the 3-0 non-conference loss.

Koziol and Tse both had two shots with one on goal for the afternoon while Revenga, Emily Tierney (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Julia Vaas (Rotterdam, Netherlands) had one. Lambertino captured six saves out of nine shots faced.

The women's soccer squad will open up conference play this Sunday at Tryon Field for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with the women's team playing first at 4:00pm.
