Volleyball Sparks Win Streak with Shut Out Win Over Bloomfield

RUTHERFORD, N.J - Felician Volleyball ignites a three game win streak with a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Bloomfield College Tuesday evening in JJJ Gymnasium.

The Golden Falcons secured a hitting percentage of .353% for eight kills and only two errors to clinch the fiest set win. As the second and third sets progressed, the green-and-gold tallied 14 attacks per set to secure the shut out for their first conference win of the 2023 season.

In the first set, the Golden Falcons boasted a 11-7 lead that eventually extended to 17-9 after kills by Karla Maldonado (Morovis, Puerto Rico), Rylee Botelho (Fairhaven, M.A.), Faith Sibert (Wyandotte, M.I.), and Felician service aces. Felician held its opposer to just 14 points after the first to run away with the 1-0 advantage with two to go.

The final two sets of the night were back and forth up until certain points. The Bears rallied its first lead of the match, 10-9, after a Felician service error, but the green-and-gold didn't allow that lead to last long. Sara Betts (Goodyear, A.Z.) put herself on the score sheet with a kill to tie it at 10 and another Felician service ace allowed the lead to flip into Felician's favor, 11-10. After the eleventh point, the hosts rallied three more points for a 14-10 lead and ultimately closed out the second set with a 25-20 win.

During final set, the Bears swiftly recorded four back-to-back points to hold a 4-0 advantage over the Golden Falcons. Megan Baker (St. Catharies, Ontario) gave the squad its first point with a kill to have both squads battle it out until 13th point when Bloomfield saw its final lead of the night, 14-13. However, Maldonado and Kromah put Felician back on top to hold off the visiting team for its first conference match of the season, 25-16.

Maldonado paced the offense with 11 kills while Kromah had eight. Sophia Watterson recorded 20 assists and Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M) had 10 digs.

The Golden Falcons will be on the road Thursday to travel to the University of New Haven in Connecticut starting at 7:00pm.
