Felician Battles in CACC Match-Up with Dominican

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - In a Saturday afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference showdown, the Golden Falcons clashed with the Dominican (N.Y.) Chargers in an intense battle in JJJ Gymnasium. Despite the green-and-gold fight, the Golden Falcons ultimately fell to the Chargers in straight sets, with scores of 20-25, 10-25, and 21-25.

Sara Betts (Goodyear, A.Z.) and Megan Barker (St. Catharine's, Ontario) led the charge for Felician, both delivering performances of 6 kills each. Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) defended the net with a tally for four blocks and Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M) and Barker defended the back end with 14 digs.

During the first set game point for Dominican, the Golden Falcons were battling back from a 24-16 deficit that put the Chargers on their heels when the green-and-gold rallied six consecutive points from four opposer errors and a kill by Ashanna Caviness (Bogota, N.J.), 24-22. With just one point away from pushing the set, the Chargers closed out on a kill to steal the first 25-22.

Felician in the second posted only three kills with six errors to be held to just 10 points in the 25-10 second set loss. To stay alive, the Golden Falcons needed to secure the third. Five Charger errors, kills by Faith Sibert (Wyandotte, M.I.) and Cailey Jones (Bel Air, M.D.), a Kayden Mallette (Maggie Valley, N.C.) service ace and a block by Barker and Sibert allowed the green-and-gold steadily hold a 10-3 lead. Much like how Felician opened, Dominican fought through the deficit to steal the lead 16-15. After the Chargers' 20th point, they held off the hosts for the match win, 25-21.

The Women's Volleyball squad (3-9 / 1-2 CACC) will be back in action next Tuesday to travel to East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania for a non-conference match-up at 7:00pm.
