Volleyball Avoids Lightning Strike to Sweep Goldey-Beacom, 3-0

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician Volleyball returned to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play Saturday afternoon when they hosted Goldey-Beacom in JJJ Gymnasium. Freshman, Megan Barker (St. Catharine's, Ontario) is the overall leader in kills this season and has recorded 13 of them during the 3-0 sweep over the Lightning.

Barker sparked the green-and-gold momentum from the start as she recorded Felician's first four points of the match with service aces. Since then, the Golden Falcons took advantage of their lead to close out the first set, 25-20.

With a season high of 17 kills, the Golden Falcons kept the offensive pressure throughout the second set. The Lightning were able to sit one point behind the hosts, 11-10 but two consecutive Sophia Watterson (Bowling Green, K.Y.) and Barker kills pushed the Golden Falcons in front for the 15-10 lead. At the 20th green-and-gold point, the opposer rallied six points to make a late comeback to once again trail by one, however, Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) and Sara Betts (Goodyear, A.Z.) put an end to the battle back and Felician saw a 25-23 win for the 2-0 match lead.

The Lightning saw their first lead of the afternoon on a Felician bad set, 9-10, to then regain the lead back after three Felician points, 13-12. Ultimately, the Golden Falcons ran away with the win when Sally Plagainos (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Barker ended the contest with kills.

Vucic ended the afternoon with seven kills and Betts had six while Watterson posted 22 assists.

The Golden Falcons are 4-11 overall and are 2-2 in the CACC. They will be back in action next Tuesday when they face Post University in Connecticut at 7:00pm.
