RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician men's basketball snapped their three game losing streak after toppling Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents, Holy Family University, 71-49, in JJJ Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J.) went 5-5 from the long range in the first half and as a unit, the men's basketball squad shot 30% from three (9-30) for the entire contest.
Here's What Happened:
- Felician rose to the occasion in the conference contest when they ignited the afternoon on a 22-3 run on points by Fitzpatrick, Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.), Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.), Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) and Julius David Jr. (Rutherford, N.J.). The Tigers would find a little bit of life to slash the green-and-gold advantage to seven, 25-18, but Fitzpatrick canceled out their comeback with back-to-back treys as well as an additional dagger by David Jr,. 33-21.
- At the half, the Golden Falcons held a 16 point lead, 39-23, shooting 45% (14-31) from the field and 35% (7-20) from downtown.
- To open the second, the Golden Falcons were all gas and no breaks when David Jr. netted another three to increase the Felician advantage back to 19. With six minutes remaining in the contest, Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) gave Felician their largest lead of the night with 26 on a quick jumper.
- In any effort the Tigers have made to diminish the Golden Falcon advantage, they were not able to overcome the trench of the green-and-gold advantage as the Golden Falcons captured the 71-49 win.
Box Score Insights:
- Fitzpatrick ended the afternoon with a career high of 22 points, and seven rebounds and four steals. Davis finished with 10-points shooting 5-8 from the field.
- Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) and McRae posted nine points apiece with Tovar having nine rebounds and one block and McRae having two assists and one steal.
- David Jr. went 2-3 from three for eight points.
- The Golden Falcons capped off the afternoon shooting 46% (28-61) from the field and were able to force 21 Tiger turnovers compared to the green-and-gold 12.
The men's basketball team (9-10 / 5-3 CACC) will be back in action in Delaware on Jan. 27 as they face off with Goldey-Beacom College at 3:00pm.
