WILMINGTON, D.E. - Felician men's basketball hit the road for another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against the top seed in the South, Goldey-Beacom College, Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Falcons generated a clean slate after the first half of play when they entered intermission tied at 37. By the second half, the Lightning outscored the green-and-gold 43-48 to hand the squad the 80-85 loss.
Here's What Happened:
- To kick off the contest, the Lightning jumped out in front with a 11-2 lead over the Golden Falcons, however, Felician would ultimately fight back for their first lead of the afternoon on an Abdul Shanunu (Accra, Ghana) bucket, 16-15.
- After the freshman's bucket, the first half would feature give more lead changes until the Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J) was able to equalize the score at 37 for a clean slate for the second half.
- Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J.) fired up the second half of play with an and-one play, 40-37, and from there... it was the battle for the score advantage. Within one-minute, there were SIX lead changes and Felician came out on top when Colon put a three-point play of his own in the book, 49-47.
- With the Lightning shooting 57% from behind the arc in the second half, they were able to rob the green-and-gold of their lead, 49-52, and would never surrender the lead for the remainder of the contest.
- Just a little two minutes left to play and Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) put the Golden Falcons within one, 76-77, but that was the closest the squad would get as the Lightning ran away with the 80-85 victory.
Box Score Insights:
- Colon paced the Golden Falcons with 24 points while also notching five assists and two steals. Fitzpatrick was the second leading scorer with 23 points and captured the lone green-and-gold block of the contest.
- Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) captured his second double-double of the season with 11 points and rebounds. He also added three steals into the mix.
- Tavian Pullock (Paterson, N.J.) and Davis had nine points apiece.
- Golden Falcons shot 80% (8-10) from the charity stripe and shot 47% (34-72) from the field.
The Men's Basketball (9-11 / 5-4 CACC) squad will be back in action on Jan. 31 when they travel to Caldwell, N.J. for another CACC match-up at 7:30pm.
