RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician men's basketball hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents - and #24 ranked - Post University in JJJ Gymnasium Tuesday night. Both squads entered the contest with perfect CACC records, but it was the Eagles who came out on top after a commanding second half, 69-83.
The Golden Falcons came out firing shooting 48% (14-29) from the field to only draw cold coming out of halftime, 31% (11-35), as they were only to capture 10 points in 10 minutes while the Eagles soared over with 18 to take the lead and the win.
Here's What Happened:
- Both squads would end up igniting the contest with three's - Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) recorded his first of four - and then flopped the lead two more times until Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) captured the fifth point and the Golden Falcons held the lead for the rest of the first half.
- The largest lead for Felician was 11 after an Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) trey, 20-9, however, Post was able to comeback and cut the deficit to four, 37-33, at the halfway point.
- It was a tale of two quarters as the Eagles opened up the second just like how the Golden Falcons opened the first. It was a 10-0 run that allowed the opposers to steal the lead out of Felician's grasp, 37-43.
- From that point on, Post kept up with the trend of the halves of capturing the lead and holding that advantage for the duration of the second.
- With the Golden Falcons being forced into a 22-point deficit, they were able to claw their way out and cut it to 10 on points by Davis and Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.). However, the last minute surge was not enough to overcome the Eagle lead and Felician eventually succumbed to the score for the 69-83 loss.
Box Score Insights:
- Davis posted a season high of 30 points - the only Golden Falcon scorer to post double figure points - and shot 61% (11-18) from the field and 50% (4-8) from the long range.
- Tovar ended the night with nine points and Amos had eight points and four assists. Jackson led the team in the rebounding department with eight and captured seven points.
- Despite the loss, the Golden Falcons were able to force 20 Post turnovers while they only committed eight, which is their best performance in that category.
The Men's Basketball (8-8 / 4-1 CACC) will return to JJJ Gymnasium on Saturday to host Wilmington (Del.) at 3:30pm.
