Rutherford, NJ – The Felician University Men's Basketball program hit the road to take on Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon. In a hard-fought contest, the Golden Falcons suffered their first loss of the 2024-2025 season.
The first half started as a back-and-forth battle between the non-conference foes. While the Golden Falcons hung tough, the Penmen took control near the end of the first half, leading by 9 at the break.
Felician was down but certainly not out, as the Golden Falcons wasted no time evening up the score within the first two minutes of the second half.
After scoring 13 first-half points, Jabri Fitzpatrick picked up right where he left off by draining a three-pointer to begin the second half. Consecutive three-pointers from Jared White followed, knotting up the score at 38 apiece.
From there, Southern New Hampshire would respond, once again pulling away a bit. Down by six with 10:22 remaining, Abdul Shanunu made a three-pointer to cut the home team's lead to just three, while a Fitzpatrick jumper would make it a two-point game.
While the Golden Falcons fought to the final buzzer, they could not overcome the deficit, as Southern New Hampshire eventually pulled away for good.
Fitzpatrick put together another strong performance for the Golden Falcons, leading all scorers with 21 points. Marcus Pierce added 12 points and five assists, and Jhonny Tovar put together a double-double effort (10 points, 10 rebounds).
The Felician University Men's Basketball team will have a few days off before heading to Bloomsburg University on Tuesday for another non-conference game. Following the trip to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, three of the Golden Falcons next four contest will be played at JJJ Gymnasium in Rutherford, New Jersey.
