Golden Falcons Meet the Lions in Morehead City for Initial 2024 Contest

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Felician Baseball (1-4) made the return to North Carolina to play in the President's Weekend Round Robin Tournament, hosted by Morehead City Marlins, in Big Rock Stadium Friday afternoon. The Golden Falcons kicked off their weekend with their initial contest with Molloy University.

Felician sat on the board first and then trailed the Lions after three innings. The green-and-gold's efforts were shut down completely while their opponents posted a run in almost every inning to hand the squad the 3-6 loss.

Here's What Happened:
  • The Golden Falcons picked up a quick run in the first when Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.) singled to send home Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, N.J.), 1-0. The Lions refused to trail for long and posted a run of their own to equalize the score at one then ultimately snagged the 1-3 lead on a 2-run bottom third.
  • In the top of the fourth, Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.Jj) placed himself in scoring position on a single and a stolen base to have Cole Porter (River Vale, N.J.) slam a single down the left field line to slowly chip away at the Lion lead, 2-3.
  • Through the fifth and seventh inning, the green-and-gold were held scoreless and left four men on base in the process while the Lions recorded a run in each and extended their lead, 2-6.
  • Genao's attempt to resuscitate the Golden Falcons on a top eighth home run, his second of the season, would end up falling short as he was the final run for Felician in the first contest of the weekend and with Molloy in the 2024 season - expected to meet again in Rockville Centere on Apr. 10 -, 3-6.
Box Score Insights:
  • Genao was 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and Kendrick was 3-5 with a run.
  • Starting pitcher, Mike Caldon (Matawan, N.J.), was featured through four innings and recorded eight strikeouts in the process. Dylan Morrill (Teaneck, N.J.) and Rafael Solano (Jersey City, N.J.) would come in for relief to pitch 2 innings each.
  • Kendrick, Porter, and Jose David Medrano (North Bergen, N.J.) slammed a double in the contest and Voss, Porter, and Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) snagged a base.
The Golden Falcons will face off with Assumption University tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm
