Baseball Splits Opening Day with ESU and Barton

WILSON, N.C. - Felician baseball opened their 2024 campaign with a Round Robin Collegiate Baseball Tournament in Wilson, N.C. - hosted by Barton College - Friday morning. The Golden Falcons started the weekend with two contests, one versus East Stroudsburg and the other with the Bulldogs.

Felician came out swinging in their first contest with the Warriors as they snagged a 16-10 victory but then was stopped in their tracks by the hosts when they were shut out 0-14 for the Friday split.

GAME ONE V. ESU - 16-10
  • The morning contest between Felician and ESU posted a 3 hour and 30-minute duration... and that's due to big swing innings. For example, the Golden Falcons posted six runs in the top of the sixth and then four more in the top of the ninth, but also surrendered five to the Warriors.
  • Jack Scrivanic's (Tinton Falls, N.J.) first at bat of the season featured a home run bomb into left field for the initial two runs for the green-and-gold, 2-0. The Warriors were able to obtain the contest advantage by securing three runs a few innings later, 2-3. This is only the beginning to the score.
  • Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, N.J.) posted an RBI at bat to equalize the score at 3 and in the next inning, runs by Cole Porter (River Vale, N.J.), Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J.), Anthony Lamar (Freeport, N.Y.), and Jose David Medrano (North Bergan, N.J.) propelled the Golden Falcons to a 9-3 lead.
  • Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.) touched home plate for the 10th run of the contest for Felician and with ESU trailing by six, 10-4, they eventually made their comeback to trail by one run by the eighth inning, 10-9.
  • With Felician up to bat, all momentum shifted towards the green-and-gold as Genao posted a two run homer for the 12-9 lead, that would ultimately be extended to 16-10 for the contest victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Scrivanic went 3-4 with a home run, one walk, and three RBIs while Genao went 2-6 with a homer and three RBIs.
  • Kendrick was 2-4 with two RBIs and Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, F.L.) was 2-5 with 2 RBIs.
  • Between both teams there were a total of 27 hits and 11 errors, with the Golden Falcons holding 13 hits and six errors.
  • Mike Caldon (Matawan, N.J.) started on the mound for the opener and pitched four innings with four strikeouts, but it was Derek Vonhorn (Hillsborough, N.J.) who captured the win in 2.0 innings and Jordan Savinon (Staten Island, N.Y.) with the save.

GAME TWO V. BARTON - 0-14
  • After a lengthy first contest, the Golden Falcons immediately went into the second of the day a little while later with the Bulldogs. Despite how Felician had the heavy swings in the first, against Barton was a different story.
  • The team was only able to record one hit from Scrivanic while the hosts piled on 16 for the 0-14 game two loss for the 1-1 record to start the weekend and the 2024 season.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action for day two with a single game with the Warriors at 2:00pm.
