MELBOURNE, F.L. - Felician Softball (4-12) split a non-conference doubleheader with Post University for their second day down in Melbourne, F.L.
The Golden Falcons grapsed the game one win, 6-4, and almost robbed game two in the bottom of the seventh, but game up short as they dropped 7-8.
GAME ONE: 6-4 WIN
Here's What Happened:
- Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) and Hannah Ramirez (Carson, C.A.) got the Golden Falcons going to start the day, where Ramirez recorded an RBI at bat to send home the graduate student for the Golden Falcons first run of the day.
- Post was able to equalize the score soon after, but the green-and-gold added another run in the top of the third when Katie Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) singled into left field to send home Ramirez, 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Post would record their largest inning of game one with three runs to grasp the 2-4 lead.
- The Golden Falcons prevailed through the fifth and seven innings with two runs in each to secure the 6-4 victory over the Eagles to break a six game losing skid.
Box Score Insights:
- O'Reilly went 2-4 while Ramirez went 3-3 with an RBI and Velotta went 2-3 with also with an RBI.
- Steinmetz went 1-4 with 2 RBI and Victorie Leon (Sylmar, C.A.) had 2 RBIs of her own while going 2-4 at the plate.
- O'Reilly and Ramirez swiped a base each.
- Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) improved her record in the circle to 3-5 with the game one win where she struck out eight Eagle batters.
GAME TWO: 8-7 LOSS
Here's What Happened:
- The first inning was eventful for both squads, however, the Eagles has the upper hand when they led the Golden Falcons 1-3 after one. Felician was able to tie in the bottom of the third on a Layla Albarran (Whittier, C.A.) double, 3-3, but once again Post was able to respond with two runs of their own in the top fourth.
- The Golden Falcons were held scoreless until the final frame, and since they were the home team for the second contest, they had one more opportunity to fight their way back from the 3-8 deficit.
- Velotta got the bottom seven started for the green-and-gold and was ultimately sent home by Mikayla Brown (Las Vegas, N.V.) with only one recorded out. RBI at bats by Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, V.A.) and Sara Torres (Rialto, C.A.) allowed two more runs to score to sit within one of the Eagles, 7-8.
- Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons efforts came up short when their final two outs happened consecutively and they dropped in game two with a final score of 7-8.
Box Score Insights:
- Albarran (1-3) and Brown (2-4) led the team with two RBIs apiece in the loss. Kittoe went 2-4 with an RBI while Leon went 1-3 with an RBI.
- Brown started the day in left field, but was eventually entered as the Golden Falcons second pitcher to relieve Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.), where she recorded the loss.
